Slick Hare (1947)
Slick Hare Review
Slick Hare is a 1947 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty good short.
Elmer is working in a restaurant where apparently a lot of Hollywood celebrities from the forties are currently dining. We do get to see a couple of them, but their cameos, though fun, are all too brief. Humphrey Bogart plays a much bigger role and he’s so well parodied with his tough voice and demeanor.
He asks for a rabbit for dinner so Elmer chases Bugs around the kitchen. I did find that middle overly extended and they should have utilized more on those celebrities. Although I personally really dislike when they portray male characters such as Bugs here wolf howling at a sexy chick, it was still amusing because that was Lauren Bacall he was howling at and they always knew how to make fun of the obsession with her from this decade.
Slick Hare features a couple of very amusing sequences and many fun cameos, but it needed a bigger emphasis on the celebrities nonetheless.
