Hare Tonic (1945)
Hare Tonic Review
Hare Tonic is a 1945 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a funny Bugs Bunny entry.
Elmer purchases Bugs, but then is scared that he might have a rabbititis. The main joke here works and that made-up disease is perfect for this type of cartoon. I personally wanted more and bigger from this movie as it’s rarely as hilarious as it easily could have been plus the middle part is less enjoyable, but still some parts are truly terrific.
Of course the moment when Bugs starts having symptoms is hilarious and the ending is particularly clever in a typically screwy Looney Tunes manner. Elmer Fudd is also a terrific protagonist here and this is a further proof that these two are meant to star together in their movies as their dynamic truly is the best. I also loved the innovative nature of the animation in this short.
Well animated and featuring a terrific concept, Hare Tonic isn’t great, but it’s definitely very amusing and having a killer ending.
