Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid (1942)
Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid Review
Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid is a 1942 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty good, though weird movie.
This is the first Warner Bros. short starring Beaky Buzzard who is a dumb, slow buzzard whom the mother sent to catch a bunny at least. That led to many fun interactions between Bugs and Beaky. I like the bird quite a bit as he is amusing, highly endearing and definitely a different, original character for the studio.
However, he doesn’t fit in with Bugs at all. At least in my opinion that is. The two do share some amusing interactions, but mostly they fell out of place together because Bugs obviously did not make fun of him enough or torment him. It’s just a weird approach to put these two together. But the animation is very strong, the setting is fabulously utilized and there are some lovely moments to be had here including the ending. But the highlight is that humorous scene involving the skeleton which is phenomenally delivered by reliably funny Bugs.
Bugs Bunny Gets the Boid definitely is weird in the pairing of its two characters, but still very funny in some scenes and very well utilized in its setting.
