Will & Grace Season 9 (2017)

Will & Grace Season 9 Review
The ninth season of Will & Grace is not the best, but still it’s a pretty stupendous, mostly satisfactory return to this show after eleven years.

“Why are the hot ones always gay or Nazis?“

11 Years Later was a terrible way to start this season. The entire episode is filled with non-stop Trump references and political jokes which obviously serve as anti-Republican and anti-Trump and are biased on every corner. The episode is thus easily the worst of the entire season.
Who’s Your Daddy thankfully course corrects and from now on, the politics is mostly out of this show for the better. Karen and Grace’s storyline isn’t the best, but Will and Jack getting to terms with their age surely is relatable, amusing stuff.
Emergency Contact is weaker in the Leo subplot, but rather sweet in Karen teaching a young girl and giving her womanhood advice. The show did conversion therapy before, but Grandpa Jack does it so well once again and particularly the ending is very sweet and emotional. I loved seeing Elliot again.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Crying is at its best when dealing with Beverly Leslie who unfortunately only got one episode this season. His coming out to Karen was hilarious. Rosario’s Quinceañera is easily the best episode of the entire season. Obviously the actress did not want to come back, so they killed off Rosario off screen. But it worked because it led to a heartbreaking episode with a tragic, sweet and highly emotional ending where Karen sits beside her coffin. That moment honestly almost made me cry and TV shows rarely do that for me, but their relationship was so well established and precious that I felt high emotion watching it end.
I rarely like historical comedy episodes, but A Gay Olde Christmas is okay for what it is. Karen was badly cast, but in my opinion Jack and Will being together, having sex and all the gay historical jokes made this episode very funny at times. Friends and Lover is one of the most purely entertaining episodes here. Jack and Karen singing a catchy number was quite amusing, but Will and Grace sleeping with the same guy who invites them for a threesome obviously provided a lot of hilarious, old-fashioned sitcom entertainment to be had.
There’s Something About Larry gives us the clunky return of Val as well as Larry who’s bafflingly in love with Will and that led to an odd feeling episode in my book. The Wedding definitely is very endearing and pleasantly dramatic. It was great seeing Vince again and realizing why they aren’t together anymore. Jack also starts a serious relationship here with a cop (this show surely loves cops) and it was a refreshing change in pace for his character and the cop is very likable himself.

Staten Island Fairy is okay, but somewhat forgettable. Three Weiss Men is absolutely hilarious! Grace sleeping with a son, father and grandfather was so funny as was seeing Will and Karen follow her servants on camera. The telenovela feel to this episode was so well done and highly comedic. Sweatshop Annie & the Annoying Baby Shower is overly rushed as it deals with way too many things simultaneously.
The Beefcake & the Cake Beef sees the return of Michael to decidedly mixed results, although I really liked Will and Jack’s friendship emphasis in this season. The highlight of the episode is Karen’s cake incident which was so funny and I loved how she is a proud Republican and Trump supporter. That led to many funny scenes throughout the season. One Job and It’s a Family Affair are both overly serious, dramatic episodes that are solid, but rarely truly funny.
In the end, I liked this season which is mixed as some episodes are just okay, but some are actually terrific and pleasantly old-fashioned. They do recall some of the better episodes of seasons past leading to a good return to the show. I loved seeing the old gang together and the actors aged like fine wine.
Worst Episodes: 11 Years Later and There’s Something About Larry.
Best Episodes: Rosario’s Quinceañera and Friends and Lover.
My Rating – 3.9

Great job with Season 10. So you just have one more season left to review and then you’ll rank them all. Now, let me say that in my opinion, Season 11 is the great final season but inferior to its previous 2 seasons. It’s known for the facts that Debra Messing and Megan Mullally were feuding, Megan Mullally was absent twice in the season and this is the lowest rated season.
By the way, I’m a huge Will & Grace fan that it’s my favorite tv show and sitcom of all-time
When are you going to rank all the seasons of Will & Grace
Busy with obligations, but probably in a week or two.
So I’m excited for your ranking of the Will & Grace seasons when are you going to put it up. Did you watch Season 11 yet?
