Quantum of Solace Movie Review
Quantum of Solace is a 2008 spy film directed by Marc Foster and starring Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko. It is a very weak, disappointing Bond flick.

This film has a much weaker storyline than the previous film. Actually, ‘Casino Royale’ is so much better in every imaginable way that this surely must be the biggest downfall from one entry to the next one in the series’ history. Nothing here is as impactful or as emotional as it was in the previous movie.
The plot is weak and your typical revenge story with a typically horrible portrayal of Bolivia. However, I loved the location nonetheless and that was one of the strongest parts of this film. The exotic locations and memorable imagery definitely made this film visually appealing to watch.
Daniel Craig is still a pretty good, though here a bit underutilized Bond. In the previous movie they objectified him so much whereas in this one you see almost nothing of it which made the two films pretty different. Olga Kurylenko is okay but far from great. The villain is also solid but not too memorable.
Quantum of Solace is mostly disappointing in pacing and action. Yes, I definitely really liked the running time as it was finally reduced to less than two hours and thus the film was much more entertaining than usual and never at all too extended. Some of the action scenes were also admittedly quite entertaining and well executed.
However, the majority of action in this film is admittedly very annoying with too many quick shots and shaky camera in its execution. That made the film frenetic, hectic and downright frustrating in certain scenes.

The film is mostly well paced, well acted and so well shot, but the score is forgettable this time around along with a weak opening number. As for the darker tone, I’ve had a problem with it. Whereas the previous movie was definitely dark, it was also earned. This one, however, is too dark and violent with most of its violence feeling unnecessary and too brutal just for the sake of being brutal. I did not like that at all.
Quantum of Solace has some fun action sequences and it is very well shot and exotic in locations, but most of the action was too hectic and frustratingly shot, the storyline is weak and typical and the overall film is just a major step backwards from the previous film which was so much better.
