Sniffles Bells the Cat (1941)
Sniffles Bells the Cat Review
Sniffles Bells the Cat is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weak cartoon.
Sniffles the mouse is one highly endearing character in the Merry Melodies series who usually got pretty good shorts, but this time around that’s unfortunately not the case. The film is as well animated as is the usual for this mouse’s cartoons and some scenes such as the interactions with the cat and the ending are sweet, but mostly the film is very boring.
Yes, most of his movies are very slow, but artistic and meditative. This one, however, is an action/chase flick which needed a much faster pace and this slow pace led to an odd, unappealing movie. The same goes for that score which is ridiculously unfitting to the overall action on screen and quite poor. The humor needed to have been better as well.
Sniffles Bells the Cat has its moments and it’s well animated, but it’s so badly paced and scored leading to a dull, forgettable entry.
