Ali-Baba Bound (1940)
Ali-Baba Bound Review
Ali-Baba Bound is a 1940 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very subpar entry.
Porky Pig is in the French Foreign Legion in the Sahara Desert. Needless to say, both the setting and the war storyline are not original as we have seen Porky in similar cartoons before. I found the story here very bland. The film bored me quite a bit as nothing interesting or remotely memorable happens in it.
The animation and score are not bad at all and Porky is endearing, but still underutilized. This is the period where they had to use Porky Pig in every Looney Tune and the directors were forced to do that. Thus the quality of his cartoons continually dropped and he was used either too little or in a demeaning manner. That is a shame as he is such a classic character who really needed a rebound at this point in time.
Ali-Baba Bound is neither funny nor entertaining. It is a familiar tale set in a familiar setting with a disappointing turn from Porky too.
