You’re in Love, Charlie Brown (1967)
You’re in Love, Charlie Brown Review
You’re in Love, Charlie Brown is a 1967 animated television special and the fourth in the Peanuts series. It is not on par with the previous specials, but is still quite good.
Charlie Brown is in love with the Little Red-Haired Girl while everyone mocks him for it. He tries to contact her and eventually learns that she is going away, but she said that she likes him. This is a lesser Charlie Brown special as it has many problems. It is never as hilarious as the series usually is and it can be pretty slow and uneventful at times. But it still has its moments with the finale being amazing as it is a happy ending which is somewhat of a departure, but has a great punch line in the end that falls into the depressing territory.
Charlie Brown is great here as is Linus of course, but I wished that Snoopy was present as he is barely in here. But Lucy is absolutely hysterical with her conversation with Schroeder being so funny and her bitter attitude towards Charlie being the funniest. It is nice to see Peppermint Petty as well and Sally is absolutely amazing with her dialogue with Charlie about graduation being hilarious. Those are all of the highlights here and while those are all great, I wish that the rest of the film was as great as well. It is charming and funny, uses its premise rather well, but is lacking in pacing and uses just a handful of characters which is a real shame.
