You Were Never Duckier (1948)
You Were Never Duckier Review
You Were Never Duckier is a 1948 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weaker flick.
I don’t know about this one. On the one hand, it’s interestingly different. But on the other hand, it’s not crazy or funny enough for me. Clearly, Daffy Duck is changed here markedly so. From a crazy lunatic to a greedy bastard, his change in personality is obvious. And although I miss the crazy side, I still like this side too and he remains a memorable, great character.
But Henery Hawk isn’t good here. I usually love this guy, but here he’s not used all that well, and the entire story does not fit these two as a character combination in my opinion. It had potential, but the end result is somewhat disjointed with only a couple of sequences really working splendidly.
You Were Never Duckier has its moments and Daffy is great, but Henery is wasted and the overall film is pretty disappointing.
