Yankee Doodle Daffy (1943)
Yankee Doodle Daffy Review
Yankee Doodle Daffy is a 1943 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a disappointing short.
I was disappointed with this particular Looney Tune. First and foremost, I do not get its title because it has absolutely nothing to do with ‘Yankee Doodle Dandy’ neither in plot nor in tone. That was a missed opportunity for a parody. The film is still a lot of fun with Daffy being again positively crazy. I loved a couple of sequences here such as the Carmen Miranda impersonation dance as well as that amusing, crazy ending.
But other than those scenes and the fact that it’s a fine Porky/Daffy vehicle, the film is surprisingly devoid of bigger laughs and more memorable dialogue. The animation is strong, the score is also good and the movie is technically proficient, but it needed more originality and better pacing. The structure is also weird as the sequences do not seem to be connected all too much.
Yankee Doodle Daffy has its standout moments and well utilized characters, but it needed a better structure and more humorous scenes.
