Woodpecker in the Moon (1959)
Woodpecker in the Moon Review
Woodpecker in the Moon is a 1959 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a solid flick.
The local rocket society is looking for a new volunteer to blast to the moon, the only other person having been sent there being Professor Dingledong who has not returned thus far. They decide to send mailman Woody Woodpecker. The movie, then, proceeds to focus on the fighting between these two regarding who is going back home in a rocket. I found that entire fight unnecessary in the context of this story and only done to satisfy the concept of the series itself.
With that being said, some of those moments worked and Woody actually knowing to use the rocket to his benefit was very amusing. The third act was lackluster, but the second act really worked and I loved the first act in how very much of its time it clearly is. The animation is gorgeous and well detailed while the voice acting is consistently terrific in this one.
