Will & Grace Season 8 Review
The eighth season of Will & Grace is a very strong conclusion to the original show with a messy ending, but particularly effective humor and character relationships.

“I love that movie. It took place in such an innocent time
when Madonna was still relevant and Rosie was still funny“

Alice and Schticking is pretty much a necessary plot device, but nothing more than that. I Second That Emotion is obviously the funniest in Grace’s hilarious appearance on Jack’s show. The Old Man and the Sea is particularly endearing in Jack’s swimming lessons with Will. Steams Like Old Times is an okay, but forgettable episode.
The Hole Truth sees Karen break up with Malcolm which annoyed me as I really liked him and the two of them together. Love is in the Airplane is easily one of the best episodes of the season with Jack’s nanny problem being so amusing and Will’s gay couple problem being mined for laughs wonderfully.
Birds of a Feather Boa is amusing in the girls’ storyline, but also incredibly endearing in the boys’ story. This season truly emphasized Will and Jack’s friendship in a wonderful manner. Swish Out of Water is okay, but particularly ineffective compared to the previous episode. A Little Christmas Queer is also rather forgettable. Von Trapped, however, is a hilarious, so well executed ‘Sound of Music’ parody.

Bathroom Humor is a hilarious slapstick episode which is immature in humor, but that I loved as it was a different kind of flair for the show and seeing them all fight over Karen was so funny. Forbidden Fruit is amusing at first, moving later in Karen’s subplot. Cop to It finally sees Vince return for which I was thankful for. I Love L. Gay starts the James storyline, The Definition of Marriage sees Will and James basically get married and Grace Expectations has Will find out how horrible a person he is. It’s a very good third-parter about the dangers of fast commitment.
Cowboys and Iranians is not only the best episode of this season, but probably of the entire show. It is hilarious in Beverly Leslie’s appearance, moving in Jack and Will’s friendship moments and particularly relevant today for tackling the stupidities of politically correct behavior so well exemplified by Grace having a white guilt and employing a terrible Iranian worker.
Buy, Buy Baby has a solid Wanda Sykes guest performance. Blanket Apology sees Karen being blunt toward Jack in a rare realistic scene in the show which really spoke to me personally. And of course the fight between Will and his father was so dramatic and powerful, ending in his tragic death. The Mourning Son really is a moving funeral episode.

Partners ‘n’ Crime is particularly effective in examining Jack and Karen’s friendship whereas Whatever Happened to Baby Gin? is very amusing and a great showcase of Karen’s crazy sister. Will and Grace of course have a fight in this episode and in The Finale we see them separated with the lives of their own, a partner and a baby. It remains a controversial, problematic conclusion, which ends sweetly, but is mostly too far-fetched.
Overall, the eighth season of Will & Grace is so good. It has its clunkers and a problematic conclusion, but most of its episodes are either very endearing or hilarious in its different kinds of humor. It was a very good end for the original run of the show.
Worst Episodes: Alice and Schticking, Swish Out of Water and A Little Christmas Queer.
Best Episodes: Love is in the Airplane, Bathroom Humor and Cowboys and Iranians.
My Rating – 3.9
