Will & Grace Season 5 Review
The fifth season of Will & Grace is another very good one and the characters are continually getting better and better.

we can achieve our dream and beat the lesbians“

…And the Horse He Rode On is overly melodramatic, but particularly effective in Karen’s storyline. Bacon and Eggs features a very strong, comedic guest performance from Kevin Bacon in such a fun subplot. The Kid Stays Out of the Picture is definitely a highly serious episode, but I found the final argument between the two absolutely phenomenal and highly realistic. Grace accusing Will of wanting her to be miserable to accompany his misery was very much true.
Humongous Growth is most definitely a fun, charming episode where the two reconcile and I just loved seeing Jack and Karen care for them and arrange their reconciliation. It’s the Gay Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a solid episode, but I wanted a bigger role from Will’s date. Boardroom and a Parked Place finds Karen living in a limo to amusing results and I did like Gene Wilder’s guest role as Will’s emotionally unstable, crazy boss very good and amusing, albeit he was at first not particularly good.
The Needle and the Omelet’s Done is important in Grace’s storyline and particularly funny in having Jack teach his drama students that sex appeal is more important than talent. As for Marry Me a Little, Marry Me a Little More, this two-parter is fine and definitely important, but again overly serious and I do find Leo’s character rather boring and I wish Grace would break up with him sooner rather than later.

The Honeymoon’s Over is absolutely hilarious in the conclusion where Elton John shows up and proves that gay mafia does exist. All About Christmas Eve is a lot of fun with Jack and Karen making fun of Will a lot. Field of Queens is hilarious in that line about lesbians and the concept of gay soccer is well explored here for comedic effect.
Fagmalion Part I: Gay It Forward is a missed opportunity when it comes to Julie’s character as she has a crush on Grace and we never get to see some funny lesbian action. Fagmalion Part II: Attack of the Clones is pretty much the best when it comes to Barry, a gay cousin of Karen’s whom Jack and Will try to transform into a “proper” gay man to hilarious results.
Homojo is rather forgettable in the bigger scope of things. Women and Children First shows particularly well how Jack is one giant overgrown child. Fagmalion Part III: Bye, Bye, Beardy gives us a hilarious interaction after interaction between Karen and Beverly Leslie who is introduced in this season and is simply an iconic, hilarious Will & Grace character. Fagmalion Part IV: The Guy Who Loved Me is a rather sweet, eventually sad conclusion of Will’s sudden attachment to Barry.

Sex, Losers, and Videotape is solid, but far from memorable. Leo Unwrapped is the worst part of this season as this very unfunny, tired episode. Dolls and Dolls features one rather memorable guest turn from Madonna herself. May the Divorce Be With You is the most memorable in Grace and Jack’s funny, endearing storyline. As for 23 and 24, I found these last two episodes again overly melodramatic, soapy and too much of a cliffhanger just as the last episodes of the previous season.
Overall, this is a very good season which benefits the most from a couple of killer guest starring performances and some memorable new characters. It has its clunkers, but most episodes are either solid as impactful drama or amusing as hilarious comedies.
Worst Episodes: Homojo, Sex, Losers, and Videotape and Leo Unwrapper.
Best Episodes: The Kid Stays Out of the Picture, Fagmalion Part III: Bye, Bye, Beardie and May Divorce Be With You.
