Wild About Hurry Review

Wild About Hurry is a 1959 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty terrific short.

This is a different than usual Road Runner short in that the segments last much longer than usual. Some of those minor gags that last for a short period of time are definitely not as good as the rest, but those longer sections were impeccable and they rank among the best in the series.

The highlight is of course the final prolonged sequence. The coyote gets into a steel ball and he experiences this epic torturous, arduous journey while in that ball – being hit by a train, landing underwater, falling etc. Then, he gets to go on a repeat journey that will be exactly the same in that hilarious irising out moment. The bird only got that final great moment while Wile E. was hilarious throughout.

Wild About Hurry definitely is uneven, but those prolonged sequences stole the show as they were both funny and perfectly constructed.
