What’s My Lion? Review

What’s My Lion? is a 1961 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very fun, but flawed short.

It’s open season for hunting and Rocky the Mountain Lion takes refuge from gunfire by sneaking into a cabin owned by Elmer Fudd. Elmer doesn’t realize Rocky is posing as one of the stuffed heads hanging on his wall. The main problem with this cartoon is its predictability. I could see the twist ending coming from a mile away as it was so obvious, though I did appreciate this milder take on hunting.

The short benefits from pretty memorable Elmer. He is very amusing here and so is that lion, albeit he is an overly familiar character to many similarly portrayed cartoon characters in the past. The premise is also quite uninspired, but the gags with the wall hiding worked as they were funny and well constructed. I just wished that the movie had more original twists and turns.

What’s My Lion? is charming and fun enough, but it is too familiar and predictable in its plot.

My Rating – 3.6
