We’re in the Money (1933)
We’re in the Money Review
We’re in the Money is a 1933 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a mostly forgettable film with a couple of great moments.
So the plot is totally non-existent and the characters are beyond forgettable. The gags are mostly uninspired and I have to say that the action and the dance movements were also dull and prolonged. But despite all of those flaws, it is still solid owing to good technical aspects and a couple of truly memorable parts in it.
Mae West being parodies with her famous line from ‘She Done Him Wrong’ is most certainly the major highlight of this movie. It was funny and relevant for its time and it is still funny after all these years. The animation is also good with pretty solid character designs and the score is superb. The titular famous song is catchy, memorable and it accompanies the flick really well.
We’re in the Money definitely is weak in plot and characterization, but with some very strong gags and excellent score.
