Weekends (2018)
Weekends Review
Weekends is a 2018 animated short film directed by Trevor Jimenez that was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
The film depicts the director’s own childhood where he spent a week living with his mother and he spent weekends with his father as the parents were divorced. And I did really like some excellent moments here and the film’s emotional subtlety was quite pleasant in this type of film. The score is also pretty good, albeit some of the song choices did not fit my taste personally.
Weekends is also very well animated and I definitely found some of its scenes rather artistic. Some of the angles and camera choices are also superb. However, the movie lost me due to its overlong runtime and not enough truly memorable sequences to support it. It’s a good film, just not worthy of an Oscar nomination.
Weekends is the weakest Oscar animated short nominee of 2018 which has great animation and it is pretty good overall, but it’s not great owing to slow pace and too long running time.
