Wacky Blackout (1942)
Wacky Blackout Review
Wacky Blackout is a 1942 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty weak flick.
This is another one of those spot-gag cartoons which center on World War II. That means that it’s a double threat at being timely and not at all timeless. It’s dated, boring and particularly ineffective when it comes to its jokes. The only good thing about this short is the stellar, actually highly above average, black-and-white animation with particularly strong character designs.
I also liked the hick narration to a certain extent. But even though the film definitely had some potential for good comedy, the end result is poorly realized and executed with not a single moment being particularly funny or memorable. The Looney Tunes series definitely are struggling, much more so than Merry Melodies, during this particular year, and I hope that they rebound soon.
Wacky Blackout is well animated, but awfully dated in its spot-gag war format with not a single joke being particularly funny.
