Wackiki Wabbit (1943)
Wackiki Wabbit Review
Wackiki Wabbit is a 1943 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is such an artistic and fun flick.
Bugs Bunny harasses the two white castaways on a Polynesian island. They want to eat, but he escapes and even taunts them with the chicken. Eventually, he boards a ship and leaves the island instead of them. I really enjoyed this cartoon despite a rather uninspired first half which is okay, but so much weaker than the latter half both in action and in humor.
But the second half has all the best scenes such as that chicken scene which is so cleverly executed and of course that finale is hilariously manipulated by Bugs who is here at his usual smart and conniving self. The thin and fat castaway are also a memorable duo, albeit they could have been even better. The animation, though, is something else. Yes, this movie features a very different watercolor, more abstract style to it that paid off significantly in portraying its far-off island.
Wackiki Wabbit has a weaker first half, but the second one is excellent as is Bugs himself. The animation is the standout as it’s so authentic and rather artistic.
