Vincent (1982)
Vincent Review
Vincent is a 1982 animated short horror film directed by Tim Burton and voiced by Vincent Price. It’s a pretty good experiment.
I really enjoy the tales of Edgar Allan Poe and I love Tim Burton’s filmography as well. And of course I have a big respect for Vincent Price who’s had probably the finest voice in the history of cinema. But even though I hugely respect all of the people involved with this production, I still ended up not loving the final product because I felt it lacked in the true horror thrills and the overall story is rather slim for a film, even a short one. I wanted a bigger pay-off at the end.
However, Vincent is still pretty good and already here Burton showed a lot of promise which he would go to further utilize in feature films half a decade from this release. His direction is strong and Price’s voice work is awesome as expected. I also really loved the film’s animation as it is absolutely terrific to behold with a great use of shades, shadows and particularly its dark atmosphere and a great attention to detail.
Vincent isn’t great, but it’s a successful experiment nonetheless thanks to a terrific voice work from Vincent Price and superb animation.
