V/H/S/94 Movie Review
V/H/S/94 is a 2021 found footage horror anthology film directed by Jennifer Reeder, Simon Barrett and Timo Tjahjanto. It’s an okay movie.
A mysterious VHS tape reveals a sinister cult that has prerecorded material that uncovers a horrifying conspiracy. The movie’s first segment Holy Hell is utterly forgettable. I don’t like drug-fueled stories, so this one also did not appeal to me in the slightest.

Storm Drain is probably the most effective of the segments in this entry. It is all about this Rat Man and the fight in the sewers. The segment works because of its excellent, superbly realized setting and a lot of true terror is mined from these infested sewers. I wish the whole movie was as memorable as this part.
The Empty Wake is a story about a cult and it’s only serviceable. I liked the next story much more as the imagery of the mechanical-human hybrid that looks like a spider in The Subject is so menacing and cool. The whole segment worked as it was deliciously crazy.
Terror is this annoying story about a cult of terrorists that obviously parallels alt-right extremists or what not. I find it annoying that Hollywood always makes movies about the one extreme side of politics and never the other one. Thus, this segment was very annoying.
V/H/S/94 has too many cult-oriented storylines. I find this subject matter overused in horror movies these days and the same goes for this flick. The overall movie is fine and on par with the first movie as being the best entries in the series, but still I did feel fatigue from this franchise and hopefully they reinvent it sooner rather than later.
