Two-Gun Mickey (1934)
Two-Gun Mickey Review
Two-Gun Mickey is a 1934 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a terrific entry.
The short happens in the Old West where Pete is the villain and Minnie is actually the hero who we follow throughout most of the cartoon. This is a very different film from all of the previous shorts in the series because Minnie here is actually proactive and a heroine in her own right. “I can take care of myself”, she continuously proclaims. That was a great, refreshing change in pace which led to a more modern cartoon.
However, Mickey still ended up saving her ass in the end which was very problematic and thus ruined the point of the film entirely. But other than that, the film is great with Mickey getting a superb fight near the end along with Pete being a reliably competent villain. The animation is fantastic as the film recreates its time period and setting so well.
Two-Gun Mickey has a great, refreshing use of Minnie in it along with fantastic animation and terrific action sequences leading to one of the series’ best so far.
