Tweety’s SOS (1951)
Tweety’s SOS Review
Tweety’s SOS is a 1951 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a terrific entry.
Sylvester chases Tweety, but Granny is there to foil his plans. Eventually, he makes it that she is out of the picture, but still the bird itself is too much for the cat. Granny is great here, she is perfectly utilized and I really liked how smartly he drew a bird on her glasses, and threw her off completely. That was great. And that ending where the two both say the bird’s catchphrase was very amusing.
Both Sylvester and Tweety are capable here which makes the film overall very interesting to follow. Tweety is absolutely fantastic, very clever and in particular his “hypotwit” line made me laugh out loud how hilariously executed it was. The animation is also strong as is the action throughout. I loved most of the pieces with that fire part being very well thought out, but the furnace and the wire part overall felt the weakest.
Tweety’s SOS is a hilarious entry in the series with many great action moments, and all three characters being superbly utilized.
