Tulips Shall Grow (1942)
Tulips Shall Grow Review
Tulips Shall Grow is a 1942 animated short film directed by George Pal. It is a pretty solid short.
This is yet another WWII movie which this time around is less direct about it, but it’s still rather obvious that the villains are Nazis. I found the film rather slow and not particularly engaging to watch plus the animation is monotone in its brown colors. However, I still loved seeing a stop-motion flick nominated for an Oscar as that was rare during the early periods.
Tulips Shall Grow does look good overall with the character designs being very strong, but its score is awesome and I just really enjoyed how charming it is tonally. It is also obviously Dutch in influence which was interesting to witness and I found the beginning and the ending the finest parts with the middle part being lacking.
Tulips Shall Grow is a rather charming stop-motion flick that is weakly plotted, but very well animated, well scored and quite charming.
