Tugboat Mickey (1940)
Tugboat Mickey Review
Tugboat Mickey is a 1940 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a pretty strong flick.
Mickey, Donald and Goofy are back as the classic cartoon trio who this time around are on a tugboat. Each of them has a different problem here which is the usual structure of the series’ entries: Mickey has a problem with the crazy, drunk pelican, Donald with the pistons and Goofy with the furnace. Each have their fun bits, but this is by far Goofy’s moment to shine.
Yes, again Goofy is the comedic highlight. Not only is his situation the funniest and best executed, but he’s himself very amusing and perfectly fitting this subplot. The ending of the cartoon where they get an SOS message only for it to be revealed to have been a part of a radio drama all along was clever and funny. The animation is reliably terrific per usual. I just wish that the rest of the trio got more to do.
Tugboat Mickey is mostly a Goofy excursion as he steals the show plotwise and comedy-wise. The animation and the ending are also great here.
