Tuca & Bertie Season 3 Review
The third season of Tuca & Bertie is inferior to its predecessors. It has its strong episodes, but for the most part it turned out disappointing.

“Bertie, you are living your best snake self, and I am here for it“

Leveling Up begins Tuca’s relationship with what is basically a tree. I did not mind that imagery as it fits the surreal nature of the show, but the character was underdeveloped and their relationship needed to have been stronger. The Pain Garden is rather forgettable, but The One Where Bertie Gets Eaten by a Snake is pretty funny in its titular scenario. It exemplifies the show at its finest – surreal, crazy and ridiculous.
Leaf Raking is pretty memorable for the attempted parenting by Speckle and Bertie. Those scenes were quite fun. Salad Days has its moments, but overall it felt too scattershot and odd. Screech Leeches is undeniably stylistically unique in its animation, but it is one psychological episode too many in a show that’s at the end of the day supposed to be a comedy.
I expected much more from A Very Speckle Episode. It’s okay, but it could and should have been more. How Speckle was used in this season was rough as he did not get any memorable storylines whatsoever and he really deserves them. Fledging Day is actually quite strong. Tuca and Speckle have a great moment together while Bertie has a terrific arc with her mother, who after all does not force her to provide her grandchildren. It’s a dramatic episode that was very well done, but it lacked humor.
Somebirdy’s Getting Married is particularly effective at examining Bertie’s relationship and her troubled feelings regarding it while The Mole is easily the best episode of the entire season. It entirely is set within Tuca’s body, which led to a highly original, surreal story that is both funny and very creative. The friendship between the two birds is at its peak here as well.

The animation in Tuca & Bertie continues to be amazing and pleasantly different while the character development is still strong. My main issue here was the lack of humor that remained a problem throughout the entire season. It was too dramatic and the dialogue could be off-putting at times.
Overall, the third season of Tuca & Bertie is quite uneven with only the finale being a standout episode. It of course looks great and the characters are still a lot of fun, but the humor needs to be better and more substantial while the drama should be brought down a notch.
Worst Episodes: The Pain Garden and Salad Days.
Best Episodes: The One Where Bertie Gets Eaten by a Snake and The Mole.
