Trollhunters Season 2 Review
The second season of Trollhunters premiered in 2017 and it consists of 13 episodes. It’s an inferior season to the previous one.

Let’s talk about the story. It’s simply not as good as the predecessor was. That story was unoriginal, but better crafted. This one really has a long build-up, way too long, as the entire first half of the season is slow and uninvolving, but thankfully the second half became so much better with the last couple of episodes being so cool, thrilling and memorably dark.
I found the tribunal episode easily the best one, and I wanted more such drama from the show. Most of the season focused way too much on coming-of-age teenage stuff, which is obviously meant for tweens and teens, so I am fine with that, but the adults thus do not get enough mature material unfortunately.
I liked what they did with Jim here, and how he is not as heroic or as important as he had been in the previous season. But Claire gets to have her moment near the end, and I loved it. It was about time that a female character was given something cool to do in this series, and that changed things up considerably and made it more appealing for everyone in my opinion.
Strickler is unfortunately entirely underused this time around as he’s such a cool character who deserves more. But all of the trolls are great, and everything surrounding them was excellent here. Yes, I loved the troll world and those scenes were the best, but everything that was happening in the school wasn’t as compelling, but rather pedestrian and overly emphasized unfortunately. Again, more fantastical elements and less teen elements is the way to go for this show.

I did like the animation in Trollhunters once again as it looks bright, colorful, suitably dark at times and simply very polished and admirable for an animated television show. They raised the bar so well with this series, and others should follow in its wake. The sound and score are also great, but the dialogue is nothing to write home about. But some of the action-adventure elements were truly excellent, and I want more of that stuff in the future. Overall, it’s a solid season, but it could have been much better.
Worst Episodes: Skullcrusher and Hero with a Thousand Faces.
Best Episodes: Unbecoming and Mistrial and Error.
