Top Ten Film Posters of 2018
2018 had quite a lot of highly intriguing and instantly recognizable posters and of course as is almost always the case, the blockbusters got the blander posters while the more indie or foreign movies got some truly memorable ones. Here are ten finest film posters of 2018 with five honorable mentions.
10. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
I like all of the posters for this movie and all are similar in Spidey jumping or gliding in the sky, but the one with the city in the background is easily the best and most visually stunning one. This is a great-looking animated movie that deservedly got a great poster too.
9. Shoplifters
Shoplifters is the best developed movie when it comes to its characters of the entire year. I just loved this entire family and suitably they got to shine in the poster as well. I loved that they are all here, but the center of the picture holds the heart of it – the dad/son relationship.
8. Can You Ever Forgive Me?
At first glance weirdly atypical, but later on truly remarkable, Can You Ever Forgive Me? is a very different, unique poster where the protagonist is standing on a huge typing machine and because that’s her profession, it’s quite fitting.
7. Bohemian Rhapsody
I don’t just despise this crap movie, but I deem it the worst of the entire year. However, it had to be the only bad movie represented on this list as I have to objectively admire its great purple and yellow mix with the pose of the singer and the sunset all working in unison to create one truly unforgettable poster.
6. Ready Player One
I adore this poster. The movie is famous for its egg-looking concept in a video game and fittingly it sits right there in the sky acting as sort of a moon while Wade the protagonist is looking at it from his suburbs climbing up. Superbly conceived across the board.
5. Alpha
This is one of those posters that I can easily see hanging on my wall as it’s so beautiful. You can see the man and the first ever dog on the cliff together while the mammoths graze beneath them and the beautiful blue sky and glaciers are there too.
4. Roma
Roma is without any doubt the most stunning looking movie of the entire year and although they just took their best moments for the posters themselves, I still loved each one of them with the beach embrace one of course being the most beautiful and the most artistic.
3. Birds of Passage
Birds of Passage is one of the most authentic films of the year because of the examination of the very unique Wayuu culture. That’s also on display in these two posters. The gun one is more minimalist whereas the richer, more populated one in characters emphasizes wonderfully both the people’s costumes and the bird symbolism.
2. Capernaum
One of the most striking sequences in this hard-hitting Lebanese drama is the one where the boy is carrying a baby with him on some old bathtub of sorts and that’s at play in this wonderful, instantly moving poster which describes the movie itself superbly.
1. Bad Times at the El Royale
This is a very entertaining, underappreciated movie in its own right and the poster itself sells it perfectly. The color palette itself is intriguingly darker and I liked the positioning of the characters and above and the girl beneath walking the street toward this very shady and mysterious hotel.
Honorable Mentions:
A Star Is Born – Sweetly romantic as is the whole movie, both Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga look great in this charming poster.
We the Animals – A very fantastical and imaginative poster for the movie that is exactly like that, the imagery here is striking as is the movie’s photography.
Christopher Robin – This is a simpler, but very memorable and sweet look into the film’s endearing crew of characters.
Three Identical Strangers – I loved this yellow poster with the three men walking on each of the film title’s words being interestingly thought out.
Venom – I really liked Venom despite its flaws and the poster sells it well with its minimalist, close-up look at Eddie and the symbiote.
