Top Ten Disenchantment Characters
Throughout its run, Matt Groening’s Disenchantment has had numerous memorable personalities. Although never as iconic in that area as ‘Futurama’ or ‘The Simpsons’, the show was still populated with its fair share of likable and interesting creations. Without further ado, here are ten best characters that Disenchantment has to offer.
10. Mora
Mora is a girlfriend to Bean. Their romance is very well explored and quite realistic in its depiction. This mermaid individually only got to shine a bit more in the last couple of seasons, which is why she got this low placement.
9. Odval and Sorcerio
Disenchantment has always been progressive. Case in point, its inclusion of an older gay couple in the form of Odval and Sorcerio, a politician and an alchemist. These two were quite a lot of fun and it’s a shame that we did not get to see more of them on the show.
8. Queen Oona
A very interesting, over-the-top character, Oona was first a queen and then she became a pirate. She was consistently highly amusing and her arc was quite well realized. It’s a shame that we did not get to see her at all in the last season.
7. Prince Derek
The most introverted character on this list, Prince Derek is a very memorable and well developed royal character who also got to grow throughout the seasons. He was also sidelined in the later installments unfortunately.
6. Prince Merkimer
A hilarious creation, Prince Merkimer was initially a very misogynistic, arrogant prince, but he changed for the better once he was turned into a pig. He remained a consistently funny sidekick that had some great lines of dialogue.
5. Luci
Luci is at first just an agent of chaos and your regular demon, but he eventually grew and became a better person. He was a very good friend to both Bean and Elfo, though he made fun of the latter quite often. Luci was at his best when he was snarky and observant. Both his voice and most of his actions were quite memorable.
4. Queen Dagmar
A truly phenomenal villain, Queen Dagmar is Bean’s mother and she grew to be a formidable nemesis toward the end of the show’s run. This is by far the best villainous character on Disenchantment and it was so much fun seeing how obviously diabolical she was. She is very funny and quite competent simultaneously.
3. Bean
Bean is the protagonist of the show, and although she was at first quite unlikable and barely developed as a heroine, eventually she became better fleshed out and quite realistic. She is not overly good as your heroes go, which made her more relatable. Her relationships with all the other characters were well developed. Bean was surely an important, though far from funny part of the cast.
2. King Zog
Initially quite full of himself and too vain, we do come to care for this guy in the latter half of the show. King Zog is a very well realized, wonderful Disenchantment character who was so full of life throughout while being very funny as well. His fraught relationship with his daughter is the emotional crux of the entire show. I just wished that he was more prominent in that excellent, but flawed last season.
1. Elfo
And the best Disenchantment character obviously is Elfo. For a comedy, humor is most important and this little guy offers it in spades. He is a complex character as he can be reserved as well as very outgoing, but above all else his naiveté and his silliness were a constant source of humor. His complicated identity is well explored and his dynamic with Luci and Bean was terrific. As a result, he is the best reason to see the entire series.
