To Duck or Not to Duck (1943)
To Duck or Not to Duck Review
To Duck or Not to Duck is a 1943 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty good, amusing short.
This is a rare pairing, the first so far of Elmer Fudd and Daffy Duck. And both are excellent here. The movie itself takes its time to get there owing to a pretty slow start, but once it does, it’s a blast to watch. I was confused by that referee hugging Daffy in a very odd sequence, but he was otherwise quite memorable and amusing.
The short is well animated and it features fine fights. I found the premise excellent. So basically Daffy entirely beats Elmer by playing it dirty and afterwards telling the audience that that’s not allowed. That was very funny and Daffy sold his every line so well. I also really liked that Elmer kind of won in the end in a nice change pace for the character.
To Duck or Not to Duck definitely features a slower start, but it afterwards becomes quite funny and I really liked this pairing of Elmer and Daffy.
