The Windblown Hare (1949)
The Windblown Hare Review
The Windblown Hare is a 1949 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very strong short.
Finally, the series goes back to doing fairy tale parodies, here focusing in particular on Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood. Yes, the mixing of the two is a bit uneven and the whole film would have benefited from a longer runtime, but this is still a glorious return to form for the series thanks to such a great formula at display.
I actually found Bugs being tricked here a very interesting, different approach with the mastermind pigs being so amusing. The wolf himself is also very memorable, and I loved Bugs in the end getting revenge on the pigs in that terrific, very memorable finale. The film plays out so fast, but it’s thus hugely entertaining and actually very funny throughout most of its runtime. The animation’s great as well.
The Windblown Hare is rushed, but incredibly potent in its parody approach with the humor being excellent and the ending being very funny.
