Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 Review
The third season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is not as good as its predecessors. It’s still a lot of fun, but much sillier this time around.

Kimmy Gets Divorced?! is so much fun. The opening where Titus argues with a seagull is hilarious while the whole Kimmy torturing the Reverend bit was very well written and quite funny. Kimmy’s Roommate Lemonades! is so half-baked throughout. I love Jacqueline and Lillian together as the two are the perfect comedic duo for the show, but their storyline once again felt rushed. Titus and Kimmy fare even worse as they are forgettable here.
Kimmy Can’t Help You! touches on trauma in such a sophisticated manner as the character played by Laura Dern is very well realized. Kimmy Goes to College! is very forgettable, but it does set up some pretty important storylines going later on, such as in particular Kimmy’s college experience.
Kimmy Steps on a Crack! is at its best in the Gretchen subplot. It was very silly, yes, but ultimately insightful in its depiction of the differences between sexes and how both are perceived. Kimmy is a Feminist! is brutally honest in its depiction of the new wave of feminism and how utterly ridiculous it may seem to regular people. Again, the show’s very un-PC approach is one of its strongest suits. I also really liked everything with Jacqueline and how she deals with Russ’ brother’s sexual advances with hilarious help from the always fun Titus.

Kimmy Learns About the Weather! is very odd in its weather-obsession. Again, it is too silly and inconsequential to deal with such minor topics. The better part of the episode is the one with Lillian. She starts her relationship with Artie here and the two are a good couple. He is good for her and overall Lillian’s arc throughout this season is the best one so far. Thankfully, she finally got more to do here.
Kimmy Does a Puzzle! is way too ridiculous for me personally. It’s by far the weakest episode of the entire show and everything that they did with Dionne Warwick was very uninteresting to me. Maya Rudolph continues to be very overrated and rather obnoxious in her strange, but unfunny brand of humor.
Kimmy Goes to Church! is an utter delight! I loved the skewering of church practices, but also how Titus and Kimmy deal with this surrounding was so funny. Even better is the Lillian/Jacqueline storyline. She gives Lillian a makeover, but eventually the roles are reversed. Simply seeing the two switch their appearances was hilarious.
Kimmy Pulls of a Heist! is ridiculous, yes, but this one works because Ray Liotta is so funny and that whole toilet situation was gross, but hilarious. Kimmy Googles the Internet! is a weaker episode. I find the whole Perry character to be an uninteresting love interest for Kimmy while Reuben was simply too boring to be Titus’ partner as well. Both deserve better.

Kimmy and the Trolley Problem! is fine, though again not all that memorable. Kimmy Bites an Onion! is a very good finale that gives Ellie Kemper a lot of room to shine in her physical comedy whereas Titus trying to get back with Mikey was so cute.
Overall, this season was way too silly for my own taste. Some episodes were borderline ridiculous, though silly parts fared better depending on the writing. The quality of the episodes widely varied, leading to a flawed season. As for the characters, Lillian got to shine the most along with Titus while Jacqueline and Kimmy took a bit of a backseat this time around.
Worst Episodes: Kimmy Learns About the Weather and Kimmy Does a Puzzle!
Best Episodes: Kimmy Bites an Onion!, Kimmy Goes to Church! and Kimmy Is a Feminist!
