The Tortoise and the Hare (1935)
The Tortoise and the Hare
This is one of the many spectacular Silly Symphonies that received an Oscar for all the good reasons.
It is one of those message movies which they unfortunately don’t make anymore but is great for kids, this time teaching them the values of hard work, not being arrogant and that an expected champion can lose if he gets too full of himself. Those are some great values that lift the whole short to higher levels.
Although the rabbit is too annoying at times making me want to punch him in the face, that was a good choice to further accentuate his doom. And although the animation is not as fantastic as that in ‘Three Little Pigs‘, it is still very good with nice color palette and terrific character design accompanied with suitable voice work. And the editing is fantastic with never a dragged or rushed moment.
