The Steeple Chase Review

The Steeple Chase is a 1933 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a solid entry.

Here Mickey has a horse race, but a bunch of wasps attack him throughout. The problem with this film is that the race itself is never as entertaining as some of the previous ones from the series. Those black characters are racist and unnecessary and the overall first half is too slow. However, the film is still pretty solid with particularly strong animation and action.

The highlight for me here are the wasps who offer a pretty good obstacle for Mickey to overcome and those scenes are the funniest in the film. I liked that Mickey had to win for someone else and Minnie had a good role to remind him of that. The film is pretty solid, just not up to part with most of its contemporaries in the series.

The Steeple Chase is well animated and executed with solid action, but a weaker first half and not as exciting race.
