The Simpsons Season 10 Review
The tenth season of The Simpsons still stumbles down from the quality of its predecessor, though it has its terrific episodes without a doubt.

Lard of the Dance is one of the best episodes of the season undoubtedly. Lisa has to deal with the new cool kid on school. She acts all mature, and Lisa, though so clever, is clearly still a kid. I loved this episode for reinforcing the idea of the high importance of being a child when you are a child. There is no need to rush into maturity.
The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace is one of many Homer-centric episodes here where he does something stupid and becomes popular and/or successful because of it. This one is not that great and is rather forgettable. Bart the Mother is an absolute classic where Bart kills a bird and then out of guilty conscience tries to save the late mother’s offspring. It’s a wonderful ecological episode that is also a superb Bart/Marge bonding installment.
Treehouse of Horror IX is not among my favorite ToH installments, though the one segment with Kang is pretty good. The one with the violent cartoon world is maybe even better, but the first segment is utterly forgettable. When You Dish Upon a Star is one of those frustratingly annoying Simpsons episodes that are celebrity-obsessed and nothing more than that.

D’oh-in’ in the Wind is an annoying hippie episode that is also quite dated. Lisa Gets an “A” is another rare classic from this season which explores Lisa’s character so well in a new situation for her. The episodes which explore the conscience of the main characters are usually the best ones. The lobster subplot is quite amusing itself in its silliness.
Homer Simpson in “Kidney Trouble” is a very underrated Grampa episode with Homer being hilarious throughout in a very well utilized hospital storyline. Mayored to the Mob is a boring mafia story, and Viva Ned Flanders is only interesting in its revelation about old Flanders’ age and not particularly good besides that point.
Wild Barts Can’t Be Broken is an odd children versus adults storyline, Sunday, Cruddy Sunday is a Super Bowl episode so I was bored by it tremendously, and Homer to the Max is another very forgettable, typical Homer craziness episode. I’m with Cupid is a pretty fun episode that only further reinforces the idea of Apu being so much better than any other man in Springfield.
Marge Simpson in: “Screaming Yellow Honkers” is a fine Marge on the road episode that has its moments and a fine premise, but is lacking in true laughs. Make Room for Lisa is another Lisa/Homer bonding episode that is overly similar in that regard to others of its type. Maximum Homerdrive is another forgettable action-oriented Homer episode, but Simpsons Bible Stories is a very interesting ToH-like experiment that satirizes Bible stories in a fun, lighthearted manner.

Mom and Pop Art is a terrific Homer episode that finally utilizes on that Homer becoming popular premise so well while satirizing the pretentious world of art stupendously. The Old Man and the “C” Student is another strong retirement home episode with a particularly great use of the older Springfield residents. I also liked Monty Can’t Buy Love to a certain degree as it became too silly later on. They Saved Lisa’s Brain is nothing new while the finale Thirty Minutes over Tokyo is a silly and dated, but at times quite funny lampooning of Japanese culture.
Overall, I liked this season fine. Yes, the Homer episodes can get overwhelming, but some are pretty good. There are a couple of excellent episodes here and some quite underrated too, but way too many are annoying and forgettable.
Worst Episodes: When You Dish Upon a Star, Mayored to the Mob and Sunday, Cruddy Sunday.
Best Episodes: Lard of the Dance, Bart the Mother, Lisa Gets an “A” and Mom and Pop Art.
