The Nifty Nineties (1941)
The Nifty Nineties Review
The Nifty Nineties a 1941 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a charming flick.
This film is a giant love letter to the 1890s in every regard. It happens in that era and follows Mickey and Minnie going on a date to a vaudeville show. Not much happens in terms of true storytelling here and the humor should have been better for sure, but the movie is charming in its presentation of its gentlemanly and ladylike era and that charm just oozes from its every frame.
The vaudeville scenes are solid, but the beginning is great and the ending with the car drive and Goofy’s old-fashioned bike are the highlights. I loved their romance here and both are so endearing together. The animation is gorgeous with a lot of memorably imagery at display with the costumes and the attention to detail being perfect in recreating its time period. The same goes for well chosen, beautiful songs.
The Nifty Nineties is slight in its plot, but gorgeous in its visuals, songs, details and romance leading to a charming historical piece.
