The Mummy Strikes (1943)
The Mummy Strikes Review
The Mummy Strikes is a 1943 animated short film from Famous Studios. It is the fourteenth entry in the Superman series.
Superman has to fight some mummies in an Egyptian tomb. They awaken from the sarcophagus and attack the scientists. The main problem I’ve had with this movie is that it is exposition-heavy in its first half, and simply way too rushed and even abrupt in the second half with all the action arriving too late in the game.
But still, how could I possibly not love this movie? It has Egyptology in it and it’s thus the most intriguing of all the Superman shorts. I loved that action even though it was rushed, and seeing him fight the pharaohs was a sight to behold. The exposition was also very interesting, the atmosphere is amazing and the score is fittingly Egyptian. The entire short is amazingly animated as well.
The Mummy Strikes looks and sounds great. It is rushed and structurally uneven, but intriguingly plotted and highly memorable.
