The Lone Stranger (1942)
The Lone Stranger Review
The Lone Stranger is a 1942 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a solid flick.
Woody gets a lone from a wolf, but eventually he comes back for money and threatens to take his car away from him. This is a movie that went after the lone sharks in a very fun way. The wolf is a memorable, sinister character who functions solidly as an antagonist to Woody. Their interactions were quite amusing.
The problem with this short is that it’s not all that funny to begin with. The premise is solid and some gags are solid – Woody being a woodpecker in one scene was the highlight – but there is a clear lack of energy and humor to its approach that was bothersome throughout. The animation is pretty good albeit not outstanding and the same goes for the score.
