The Lion King Movie Review
The Lion King is a 2019 musical drama film directed by Jon Favreau and starring Donald Glover among others. It’s one of Disney’s worst remakes.

This is it. The bottom of the barrel. ‘Aladdin’ was quite similar, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ even more so. But this one is simply put a line-to-line copy of the original film. I would honestly say that more than 95 percent of this movie is exactly the same as the original.
That’s why I don’t understand how anyone could love this except for die-hard fans of the original who are so stupid that they want to see the exact same thing or the people who haven’t seen the first film in a long time. Otherwise, the film isn’t for anyone, and it certainly wasn’t for me.
I honestly cannot begin to understand why even the smaller moments or conversations from the original are reenacted the same exact way. Why is the dialogue the same throughout? Why are all of the characters exactly the same? I honestly don’t get it.
This is such a shameless rehash of the original that the original writers and crew should sue the film for not putting their names in the credits as this is the most blatant form of theft I could think of, and of course Disney got away with it.

I would say that the voice acting is fine. In particular, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon stole the show and their characters had at least some original lines to them. The nod to Be Our Guest from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was hilarious and the only memorable, original scene from this entire film.
Others are also fine including Chiwetel Ejiofor who is suitably menacing as Scar. But, my problem with the voices comes from the realistic CGI. The effects are so real and the character design is so vivid that the voices coming out of these lions sounded very odd, silly and honestly stupid. That’s why in animated films these days, everything is super realistic, but the characters remain cartoony and doll-like, just to avoid this level of uncomfortable feeling of odd.
Yes, the only thing that’s special about this entire stupid experiment is the visual aspect to it. The Lion King is undoubtedly the best-looking film so far, featuring breakthrough special effects that need to be seen to be believed.

The lions literally look real, the natural landscapes of Africa are vividly detailed and the designs are all on-point. The lighting is absolutely stunning to behold. The movie is marvelous to watch, but it quickly lost that novelty to it having in mind that the script is so horrible. Nothing can save a bad movie, not even the best effects of all time.
The movie is also overlong, boring and never particularly adventurous or funny as the original was because nothing here is new or interesting. And last but not least, the soundtrack. Oh boy, are the songs in this movie horribly rendered. The new song Spirit is fine, though utterly forgettable. Circle of Life is okay, though much weaker in singing. And all of the other songs are stripped of their charm, authenticity or magic as they do not have any unrealistic elements to them. Be Prepared is the worst example of that. They destroyed this classic number entirely with washed-up visuals and a terribly shortened runtime and lack of impact or any fun to it.

The Lion King remake isn’t a movie, but a blatant copy of the original that the crew that worked on it should sue them for not putting their names in the credits. Yes, the film features breakthrough special effects, the best so far as everything including the designs, lighting and landscapes looks incredibly realistic. But there lies a problem – the musical numbers then became unimaginative, boring and simply horrible in every way whereas hearing these seemingly real lions talk was very awkward. Thus, it’s at least 95 percent the same, maybe even more, and it’s only intended for the weak-minded die-hard fans of the original, the people who haven’t seen it in a long time or the ones who are obsessed with great VFX. For everyone else, including me, this was very difficult to sit through.
