The Lady in Red (1935)
The Lady in Red Review
The Lady in Red is a 1935 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a typical musical entry.
We follow a lady cockroach as she dances and eventually she’s attacked by a parrot. I really found the plot here non-existent and typically consists of the first dancing half and the second action one. Both are forgettable and both are far from good. The parrot looked great and menacing and I liked the design of the cockroaches, but the animation itself isn’t all that great.
The score is actually solid and fun in a typical Mexican fashion, but the dance sequences are uninspired and overwhelming in length. The Merry Melodies are definitely getting repetitive and hopefully I am going to witness a change in quality which I hope is going to happen soon.
The Lady in Red is well scored and designed, but forgettable with too much dancing and not enough plot.
