The Foxy Duckling (1947)
The Foxy Duckling Review
The Foxy Duckling is a 1947 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid flick.
This one follows an insomniac fox who simply cannot sleep on his tough, uncomfortable bed so he sets out to capture a duck to use him for the pillows. It’s one of those classic chase cartoons that mostly works despite its setbacks which are unoriginality and the lack of classic Warner Bros. characters.
I really liked the fox and the duck is also okay. The decision to not give them dialogue paid off as the action was thus more memorable and better executed. But still, the humor was really lacking this time around and the same could be said for the film’s rather pedestrian animation which is nothing special at all.
The Foxy Duckling has solid action and characters, but it needed better animation and a more memorable storyline.
