The Flying Squirrel Review

The Flying Squirrel Review

The Flying Squirrel is a 1954 animated short film produced by Disney. It’s a very good flick.

Donald Duck has a peanut cart in a park, where a flying squirrel ends up in a battle with him for the peanuts. This was a great return to form for the series that really floundered during this period. The animation is terrific, though the score is forgettable. The movie doesn’t have the best ending and the beginning was also lesser, but the entire middle section was excellent.

This is one of those classic Donald Duck cartoons where he is pitted against a wild animal, this time a flying squirrel. It’s a shame that this fellow did not return afterward as he was a lot of fun. They used his gliding abilities so well for some interesting scenarios. Donald is the unlikable prick here as he wouldn’t give just one peanut to the squirrel, which resulted in the battle between the two that featured a couple of hilarious gags. The one where they fought using very small pistols was the funniest and most memorable moment for sure.

The Flying Squirrel was a return to form for the Donald Duck series, featuring a very good character dynamic and a couple of very funny gags.

My Rating – 4.1
