The Fighting 69 1/2th Review

The Fighting 69 1/2th is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is pretty solid.

This is a war short where the two opposing ant colonies enter a war with each other. It is simplistic, but pretty clever in concept which is great for cartoons. The execution isn’t great, but the film still ended up being solid. I did want more memorable gags and humor as it lacked in that area, but in terms of action, the movie is pretty good.

It has a memorable beginning and ending with the middle section containing solid action. I found the score and sound pretty good too. The animation is terrific as the backgrounds are very strong and the ants look really polished and respectably realistic in their design and movements.

The Fighting 69 1/2th definitely could have been a great movie had it been funnier, but the action is pretty good and the animation is terrific.
