The Eyes Have It (1945)
The Eyes Have It Review
The Eyes Have It is a 1945 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is a surprisingly strong short.
Donald is given some hypnotic glasses and decides to test them on Pluto. Using the glasses, he convinces Pluto that he is different animals. Yes, Donald and Pluto aren’t the best fit for a movie, I get that. This was their last pairing as the studio realized that too. And this movie certainly doesn’t make the best use of Donald as character as it focuses on Pluto a lot.
With that being said, it still worked for me as it’s a very entertaining and funny short. The idea is a familiar one, but execution matters and it was terrific here. Donald was memorably devious and he got what he deserved toward the end. Pluto was the victim and it was brilliant how the animators made Pluto not only behave like all the different animals, but also look like them.
