The Ducksters (1950)
The Ducksters Review
The Ducksters is a 1950 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is such a flawed, but solid flick.
In this short, Daffy Duck is a quiz show host and Porky Pig is a contestant. In the quiz, he gets asked many obscure and ridiculous questions, and when he doesn’t know, he gets physically tortured by Daffy. In the end, the tables are turned obviously. That was expected and the whole short was so fun that it was ridiculously short for me, but still I loved it to pieces.
The concept itself is absolutely brilliant, and the execution is terrific too, though the punishments could have been more diverse. But I loved the gorilla part and the waterfall as well. The ending is funny, but to me the most hilarious part of the cartoon is when Porky actually answered a ridiculously obscure question correctly and Daffy was visibly annoyed. That was fantastic. Daffy is perfect as this type of torturer, and their interactions are golden.
The Ducksters has an amazing premise beautifully executed. Porky and Daffy have rarely been better than they are here.
