The Dizzy Acrobat (1943)
The Dizzy Acrobat Review
The Dizzy Acrobat is a 1943 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a forgettable short.
The film follows Woody’s shenanigans at the circus with the elephant and the trapeze and so on. This is yet another one of those circus shorts from the forties and nothing here is particularly new or interesting. I did like Woody’s manic energy and the animation is also pretty good.
The setting is brought to life really well and the third act is particularly strong, but most of the cartoon isn’t particularly memorable and it needed better humor and storytelling with the action itself being pretty good though. I did not think that it really deserved its Oscar nod whatsoever.
The Dizzy Acrobat is certainly not the best Woody Woodpecker short out there so its Oscar nomination was not earned at all. It’s solid, but far from great.
