The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon (1933)
The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon Review
The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon is a 1933 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty weak film that had great potential.
I liked that it revolves around dish and that they are the protagonists of the film. That was interesting and original. The animation is actually very good with good and polished movements and pretty good designs. But the score is forgettable and the film is weakly paced and overly slow.
Its first half is solid, but the second half doesn’t utilize its premise properly. We see some rehashed gags from before which was entirely unoriginal and frustrating. The conclusion is fine, but nothing spectacular. It’s a shame that the animators had great material and still never did anything interesting with it leading to such an underdeveloped short.
The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon has an interesting premise, but weak execution with rehashed action and slow pace.
