The Dark Knight Movie Review
The Dark Knight is a 2008 superhero crime film directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. It’s one of the most overrated films of all time.

Gordon and Harvey Dent form an alliance while Joker creates chaos and kills everyone at sight. Although a couple of moments where the idea of Batman was explored I found sophisticated, the movie for the most part isn’t all that smart. It thinks it is smart owing to its pretentious approach obviously, and Nolan thinks very highly of himself, but the product itself is very simplistic when all is said and done.
The Joker kills a person, then we see some dialogue on how to stop him and so on and so forth. It became very repetitive after a while and the emphasis on Joker and Dent hurt Batman himself who here is such a boring, bland character with Christian Bale continuing his tradition of giving a mediocre performance in this role.
But others weren’t better themselves. Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman are all good here and the characters are fine, but Harvey Dent is such a non-entity. He is supposed to be the most important character here as the emphasis is so huge on him but Aaron Eckhart’s performance is so weak and the character is poorly handled and written.

And that brings me to Heath Ledger’s Joker. This is by far one of the most overrated characters ever created in the history of cinema. Joker is supposed to be maniacal, laughing and crazy, but here he is just an anarchist and nothing more than that. He’s overly realistic to the point of becoming a bore, he’s too much of a departure and Heath Ledger only got an Oscar because he died. That’s harsh, but it’s the truth. This performance is simply nothing special.
The Dark Knight isn’t particularly memorable in terms of technical aspects too as the cinematography is too dark and unappealing, and the dialogue continues to be pretentious and overwhelming with the majority of the first half’s dialogue being highly disposable. The action sequences continue to be terrible, and whenever this trilogy focused on action itself, it was downright badly filmed and not exciting at all. It’s simply just an annoying crime movie as it entirely fails as a superhero one.

The Dark Knight entirely fails as a superhero movie as the action is so mediocre and it is a rather boring, overlong watch. This is just another crime movie, and not a special one either as the plot is not as smart as it thinks it is, and it’s overall too simplistic and repetitive. The dialogue is overwhelming and again not as sophisticated as Nolan thinks it is. It admittedly has some very strong sequences and themes, but overall it’s a shore to sit through. Harvey Dent is a failure of a character, Bale continues to be a mediocre Batman and Heath Ledger’s Joker is one of the most overrated characters in the history of cinema. He’s just an anarchist and never Joker himself while the performance is just serviceable and far from glorious. Needless to say, this is simply not the best superhero film of all time as it’s not even a passable genre flick. The Dark Knight surely is one of the most overrated movies of all time.
