The Crackpot Quail (1941)
The Crackpot Quail Review
The Crackpot Quail is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weaker short.
A dog wants to catch the quail who escapes continually and makes fun of the stupid dog. This is one of those shorts that again tried to replicate the Bugs Bunny formula, but failed miserably. The film lacks in terms of humor as it is amusing to watch, but the gags aren’t great and are actually quite stale. The same goes for the plot.
The animation is very strong and especially the character design of the dog and particularly the quail who looks wonderful. The film has its moments, but mostly it was way too long and dull owing to a slow pace as well as particularly ineffective and oddly put together action.
The Crackpot Quail definitely is well animated, but weak in humor and especially action.
