The Arctic Giant (1942)
The Arctic Giant Review
The Arctic Giant is a 1942 animated short film from Fleischer Studios. It is the fourth entry in the Superman series.
This time around Superman has to defeat a monster thawed from ice which terrorizes the city and attacks Lois. Though this movie was incredibly rushed and short much to its detriment, it is still the second best entry so far for sure as it’s so damn entertaining and charming. I loved the monster and how he resembles ‘Godzilla’ so the Japanese were clearly influenced by this movie which is fascinating. The action scenes were too short, but sweet.
The animation continues to be exceptional and the monster design is so good. I liked the score too and in particular the dialogue is great here. Those small moments between Lois and Clark Kent were so amusing and I really liked how playful he is with his identity and that repeated joke in every ending of the shorts continues to be terrific.
The Arctic Giant is rushed, but very memorable, entertaining, so well animated and particularly well delivered in terms of dialogue and humor.
